For our first show at Hoopla after the Summer break, GTI will welcome back Dylan Emery and Ali James after wildly successful stints in Showstopper up at London's famous Edinburgh Festival. We're also excited for the return of LA impro legend Dan O'Connor during one of his regular teaching tours of Europe. GTI will be sharing the bill with The Pretend Company. It'll be a great night and very much your kind of thing.

Ali James is in Showstopper. She’s played Eva Peron in Evita (Gaiety Theatre IOM), u/s Swallow in Whistle Down the Wind (West End), u/s Laura (Tell Me on a Sunday – UK Tour), Cathy in The Last Five Years (Buxton Opera House), she was a writer and performer in GIRAFFE sketch comedy (Edinburgh Festival) and has been in Eastenders. So there. She’s also a choreographer and movement director – Showstopper, Mischief Theatre’s Magic Goes Wrong, National Youth Theatre. In 2020 she directed PS I’m a Terrible Person by GTI favourites Francesca Forristal and Jordan Clarke.

Dylan Emery is co-founder of Olivier Award-winning West End, Edinburgh Festival and BBC Radio 4 Impro Hit, Showstopper! The Improvised Musical, Ken Campbell-inspired hard-bardics masterclass, the School of Night and Grand Theft Impro. He has performed at the National Theatre, The Royal Court and Shakespeare’s Globe.

Dan O’Connor is co-founder of L.A’s Impro Theatre - for which he co-directed and performed Jane Austen UnScripted, Shakespeare UnScripted and Sondheim UnScripted. He’s co-founder of four American Theatresports companies including Bay Area Theatresports, with whom Phil has performed. He was in Improbable Theatre’s Off-Broadway production of Lifegame and the TNN television series of the same name. He co-created the NBC/PAX television improv comedy show World Cup Comedy. He was a writer and the improv director for The Wayne Brady Show.

Dan’s Television acting credits include Seinfeld, Campus Ladies, Malcolm in the Middle and The Tonight Show. He was an adjunct professor for USC ‘s BFA program. He has taught at UT, DUKE, Pepperdine, UCLA extension and an improv companies around the world. He taught casts of Cirque du Soleil’s Saltimbanco and Corteo.

Phil Whelans - writer and performer of his own Radio 4 sitcom, My First Planet, founder member of Pros from Dover - with whom he did two series of Radio 4's The Infinite Monkey Cage. Phil has worked with everyone from Joan Rivers to Basil Brush, Al Gore to Brian Conley, Robin Williams to Giles Brandreth. Phil has been in It's Kevin, Brasseye, Preston Front and a number of unsuccessful radio and TV impro pilots. He has improvised all over the world, is founder member of Spontaneous Combustion and Grand Theft Impro, has been in Showstopper: the Improvised Musical, Hamlet Improvised and Criminal and was a Monkey Toast player.

Sally Hodgkiss is an award-winning actor, writer and comedian. Her acting career has taken her to the Manchester Royal Exchange, Sheffield Crucible, Octagon Theatre Bolton and HOME among others. She’s been in Eastenders and in James Veitch's Super Hyper Literal. She’s improvised with, among others, Whose Line is it Anyway? Live, The Comedy Store Players, Bumper Blyton and The Committee.

Phil Whelans - writer and performer of his own Radio 4 sitcom, My First Planet, founder member of Pros from Dover - with whom he did two series of Radio 4's The Infinite Monkey Cage. He was in The Reduced Shakespeare Company, brought Theatresports to London and devised or co-devised Hamlet Improvised, The Impro Musical and Impropera.

Jessie Rutland is a member of Hoopla Impro’s original house team GämezShe has performed in interactive stage shows, The Improvised Crystal Maze and Fungeons & Dragons. She is a musical theatre actress and a cellist. Jessie has trained with Hoopla, The Maydays, Lee Simpson, Showstopper and Patti Stiles.

Phil Whelans – writer and performer of his own Radio 4 sitcom, My First Planet, founder member of Pros from Dover – with whom he did two series of Radio 4’s The Infinite Monkey Cage. Duncan Walsh Atkins has been musical director of Showstopper since 2009, meaning sell-out Edinburgh Fringe and West End runs, national and international tours and a BBC Radio 4 series. He’s been MD and/or pianist in countless musical theatre shows as well as the BBC2 improvised comedy series Fast and Loose. He’s one half of the Flanders & Swann tribute At the Drop of a Hippopotamus and can occasionally be seen in a wig portraying Benny Andersson in Abbamania.

Nell Mooney studied improv with the Upright Citizens Brigade in the US and has worked in London with the likes of Showstopper, The Free Association and Monkey Toast. Her screen credits include Hyde Park on Hudson, Enchanted and Law & Order.

A 2008 study by the Dutch Centre for Insurance Statistics states that "fewer accidents and reports of fire and theft occur when the 13th of the month falls on a Friday than on other Fridays, because people are preventatively more careful or just stay home. Statistically speaking, driving is slightly safer on Friday the 13th, at least in the Netherlands; in the last two years, Dutch insurers received reports of an average 7,800 traffic accidents each Friday; but the average figure when the 13th fell on a Friday was just 7,500."

His twoprov act, TJ and Jason - later Steve and Jason, then Alison and Jason, then Denise and Jason, Tony and Jason, The Evans family and Jason, Detective Palmer and Jason, the camping trip where they were all found mutilated and Jason and later on, TJ, who wasn't dead after all, and Dave, and TJ and Jason, who Dave hadn't killed after all - did the Vault Festival in 2019.

This coming Saturday sees GTI return excitedly to the stage after the summer break. How did you spend your summer? GTI went to stay with its relatives in the countryside. GTI climbed trees, swam in the lake, went for cycle rides, had picnics... and then, one day, GTI stumbled across a strange man burying something in a clearing. A parachute! GTI followed him to a run down, dilapidated hut in the woods, where he assembled a radio transmitter and began broadcasting...

...He was a podcaster. Hit "like" and subscribe wherever you get your podcasts. GTI had him arrested.

GTI will be...

Max Dickins is the author of four books and four plays. He is an actor, a presenter and a comedian. He has appeared on national television, in shows such as Michael McIntyre’s Big Show. He’s had his own show on Absolute Radio, where he was nominated for a Sony Radio Award. And his live shows have toured nationally.

Nick Oram has written plays for the Derby Theatre and RADA. He won the BAFTA Rocliffe Comedy Writing Competition in 2017 with his script Last One Left. He has trained under a range of improvisers including perfomers from the IO, Second City, and UCB. He created the one man improv show, Nick Oram and the Playmobil Players. In 2015, Nick appeared in BBC Three's Murder in Successville.

Jessie Rutland is a member of Hoopla Impro's original house team 'Gämez', as well as 'Hat Trick: The Improvised Sketch Show'. Previously she has performed in interactive stage shows 'The Improvised Crystal Maze' and 'Fungeons & Dragons'. Jessie has trained with Hoopla, The Maydays, Lee Simpson, Showstopper and Patti Stiles.

GTI will fie... alright, more special than Margaret Thatcher and Ronald Rea... well, that's even worse booing... stop booing... okay okay... more special than Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Mar... oh, that's unfair... please stop booing... anyway GTI will field a line-up that epitomises the Englisch Amerikanische Freundschaft at its very, very best. Dan O'Connor is co-founder of L.A’s Impro Theatre - for which he co-directed and performed Jane Austen UnScripted*, Shakespeare UnScripted and Sondheim UnScripted. He’s co-founder of four American Theatresports companies including Bay Area Theatresports with whom Phil has performed. He was in Improbable Theatre’s production of Lifegame Off-Broadway and in the TNN television series of the same name. He co-created the NBC/PAX television improv comedy show World Cup Comedy. He was a writer and the improv director for The Wayne Brady Show. He was one third of the American Team at the 2006 Improv World Cup Tournament in Germany as part of the arts portion of the World Cup.

Dan’s Television acting credits include Seinfeld, Campus Ladies, Malcolm in the Middle and The Tonight Show. He was an adjunct professor for USC ‘s BFA program. He has taught at UT, DUKE, Pepperdine, UCLA extension and an improv companies around the world. Most recently he taught Cirque du Soleil casts of Saltimbanco and Corteo.

Edi Patterson plays Judy Gemstone in The Righteous Gemstones. She has starred in the film Knives Out and on T.V. in Partners, with Kelsey Grammar, and Vice Principals. She has improvised with Theatresports in Texas and Los Angeles and is an alumnus of L.A.’s The Groundlings.

Phil Whelans - writer and performer of his own Radio 4 sitcom, My First Planet, founder member of Pros from Dover - with whom he did two series of Radio 4's The Infinite Monkey Cage. Phil has worked with everyone from Joan Rivers to Basil Brush, Al Gore to Brian Conley, Robin Williams to Giles Brandreth. Phil has been in It's Kevin, Brasseye, Preston Front and a number of unsuccessful radio and TV impro pilots. He has improvised all over the world, is founder member of Spontaneous Combustion and Grand Theft Impro, and has been in Showstopper: the Improvised Musical, Hamlet Improvised, Criminal, and Monkey Toast.
